We recognize every situation is different, there fore the best way to determine which option is best for you is to come visit and let us determine which suits you best. Basically the options to replace teeth fall into one of three categories:
Partial Denture
Fixed Bridge
Implants
In most instances implants are best options but let's take a moment to explain what that really means.
Implants basically replace the tooth, by copying and creating the missing tooth both above and below the gums. This is helpful in many ways. First it prevents further shrinking of the gums and bones so that the desired result still looks good cosmetically. Second, the materials used are very bio-friendly, and allows for great maintenance and upkeep and makes it impossible to get cavities around. Third, as time has gone on, improvements to materials and methods used mean we can expect great longevity from them
Once a tooth is missing, or needs to be extracted, an evaluation is performed to determine if you are good candidate for an implant and if there is any necessary work needed to ensure it's success. Sometimes bone grafting- the addition of bone to the area- (think cement around a fence post to ensure it holds strong) is needed. Everyone's situation is different, so only a personal consultation and personalized treatment plan would tell the tale.
The implant is then placed into your jaw, a procedure which sounds much worse than it really is. The implant then needs some time to fully heal, usually a period of 3-4 months. Once the healing is complete, an abutment is placed inside the implant, which sticks out of the gum and allows us to put a crown over it.
